Judging Resources

This page contains key resources to support Artistic Swimming judges in their ongoing education, revision, and competition preparation.

Here you will find links to current rules and manuals, past education session recordings, online learning modules, revision tools, and other useful documents. Judges are encouraged to use these resources regularly to keep their knowledge up to date and to prepare for upcoming competitions.

Key Documents

These documents should be used as the main reference points for judging in New Zealand competitions.

  • ASNZ Rules and Documents
Includes the current ASNZ Competition Rules, figure lists, routine elements, and other important New Zealand-specific documents.
  • World Aquatics Judges' Manual
This is the Judges bible - knowing what's in it and how to use it is key for any judge. This is still the most current version for 2026.
  • World Aquatics Figures Manual
Includes the current figure descriptions, diagrams, and requirements for all figures, including ones that aren't currently in rotation.
Education Session Recordings

Past ASNZ education session recordings are available to support judge revision and development. These recordings may be useful for new judges, returning judges, and experienced officials wanting to refresh their knowledge before a competition.

A link to the full recordings folder is provided here, but judges may find the following sessions particularly useful:

Judging Practice

These practice judging documents are designed to help judges build confidence before competitions, especially new judges who may not have the opportunity to shadow before being placed on a panel.

The practice documents include routine links and score sheets for judges to use while practising. Judges can choose the routines most relevant to the panels they are preparing for, including Artistic Impression and Elements. The answer sheets can then be used to compare your scores with the judges’ scores from the competition. The current practice examples include duet, solo, mixed free team, and combination team routines.

USAAS Academy Online Modules

The USA Artistic Swimming Academy is an online learning platform offering a range of judging modules. Some modules are free, while others are paid.

These modules cover judging at different levels and include practice examples to support learning and revision. While there is a small cost, this is a great resource for understanding judging principles and developing confidence in your judging skills.

World Aquatics Certification Pathway for Officials

Click here for the World Aquatics Technical Officials Pathway document. This document clearly outlines the pathway to certification, the learning outcomes and passing criteria for World Aquatics certification. Please note this is a new system as of January 2025.

Applications for the pathway must be submitted by ASNZ, and there are limited number of Officials allowed on the list at a time per country. Please contact officials@artisticswimmingnz.org.nz for more information.

The list of current World Aquatics Officials can be found here.
